Event: PAssion Arts Festival Craft Workshops at Punggol

WahSoSimple was thrilled to craft at another PAssion Arts Festival Village. We started our Saturday morning on 5 August 2017 bright and early and joined the residents at Punggol Damai estate. They had gathered for a morning to celebrate our Nation's 52nd Birthday and made some crafts together. It was a very bright and vibrant morning in every sense! The residents were all decked in red as they mingled at the various craft tables, making something beautiful with their family and friends!

We ran 3 crafting booths:

• Glass Marble Magnets - Residents made a pair of glass marble magnets with special designs under the theme of 'Breakfast in Singapore'. We saw visuals of nasi lemak, kaya toast, Milo peng, hot kopi and more breakfast yummies made into practical magnets.
• Shrink Art Tags - 'Everyday Objects' was the theme of this shrink art activity. Residents coloured Singaporean everyday objects like a phone, umbrella, pair of flip-flops, ice-cream cone, soccer ball, coffee cup, etc onto pieces of shrink plastic and we 'baked' it on spot to create a useful tag for their bags, water bottles, pencil cases, etc.
• Stamp A Fabric Bag: We made animal- and transport-themed stamps and residents stamped them onto fabric bags in their favourite colours.

All-in-all, it was a colourful and happy morning to celebrate Singapore's birthday! =)

Event: Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Grand Opening: Crafting of Chinese Themed Glass Marble Magnets

We were really happy to be part of the opening ceremony of the very impressive Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre. This centre is created with the vision to promote Chinese culture which are Singapore Centric.

WahSoSimple was tasked to create a craft activity for the guests at the event. We drew inspiration from our rich and unique Singapore Chinese heritage with our glass marble magnets craft. Participants had fun making their very own pair of Glass Marble Magnets with the various designs prepared for them. They chose from the selection of Chinese Zodiac Animals, Oriental themed flowers and the range of delicious Chinese snacks.

It was a fascinating night to remember, crafting with distinguished guests at this grand opening, not forgetting the talented children from the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan. The children came to craft with us after their impressive Chinese poetry recital for the guest of honour for the evening, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and the invited guests for the evening.

Event: Upcycling Glass Marble Paperclips

We had a great time holding an upcycling craft workshop at the Farmers' Market event at the Enabling Village on 28 May 2016. This is part of the initiative by Central Singapore CDC with Project UPcycle; sharing with the residents the beauty of upcycling.

The sweltering heat did not hamper our enthusiasm as we combed through past editions of magazines, looking for the perfect prints to hand make some glass marble paper clips and magnets. 

You look at everything around you with a fresh perspective, as you ponder if you can give them a second lease of life with upcycling. It is a very empowering feeling, turning yesterday's trash into today's treasures.

Event: Personalised Wedding Favours With Glass Marble Magnets

We were really excited to be part of the intimate wedding of Aldrich and Laraine, held in stunning Boracay, Philippines. They wanted a small and personalised wedding favour for each of their guests.  We handmade sets of personalised glass marble magnets for their guests. 

The wedding was simply perfect; with gorgeous skies, raptures of laughter and tears as close family and friends came together to make beautiful wedding memories for the couple on 10th March 2016. We are honoured that our glass marble magnets were part of their wedding celebrations. 

Congratulations Aldrich and Laraine and we wish you a lifetime of bountiful joy and eternal bliss as you journey through the days of your life together.

DIY Craft Kit: Glass Marble Magnets

Making glass marble magnets is my favourite and easiest DIY craft to make for various occasions. I have made these glass marble magnets for teachers appreciation day, going away gifts, spicing up my fridge, documenting my latest vacation, etc.

This is what I use:

• Flat glass marbles (Get the better quality ones. There are some cheaper ones that has air bubbles inside and you want to avoid these.)
• Mod Podge
• Craft paper / photos
• Sponge brush
• Magnets
• Super glue
• Scissors
• Small container for Mod Podge

Event: Love Thy Earth! Upcycling Craft With Glass Marble Magnets!

We spent a lovely afternoon with Project Earth Day at United Square on 25 April 2015. It was a meaningful initiative organised by the National Environmental Agency. 

We gave old magazines a new lease of life by up-cycling them to make pretty handmade glass marble magnets. Together with the many children who came to our workshop, we flipped though the magazines looking for the prettiest prints. We also added heart shapes cut-outs which we had cut out from used red packets from Chinese New Year which went by just 2 months ago. It was really fun as we worked together with the children to make their handmade with love ,magnets for their mummies.

It was indeed a meaningful and fulfilling afternoon as we see the little ones, the guardians of our Earth in the future, scoot off with their handmade up-cycled glass marble magnet craft. We know that they had learnt through to the workshop, how they can do their part to help love and appreciate our resources and how they can make pretty gifts with them.

DIY Craft: Valentine's Day Glass Marble Magnets

I have officially ran out of gift ideas for my beloved this Valentine's Day, since Christmas and his birthday just came and went by. I would like to think that a handmade gift is really special during Valentine's Day. And so I made these glass marble magnets just for him.  It was simple, fun and ooh so special as it was handmade by me. =)

DIY Craft: Valentine's Day Cards

I am not a big fan of Valentine's Day but making cute little cards just made me want to celebrate it big time with not just my husband but also with my son, family members, special friends and people who have already given me Chinese New Year snacks. =)

Here are some ideas for you to share your love with your special ones. I like making my cards with more than paper. Using shrink plastic and clay ornaments add an extra dimension to handmade cards.

The first card is made with cross-stitching thread, the second card with rainbow heart is made with shrink plastic and the third card with heart cut-out is made with oven bake clay.
